Professional & Liberal Studies Electives

Professional Electives
During your Senior year you're asked to take a number of Professional Electives. Here's what is meant by that requirement for AE's.
(Note that the University Catalog refers to them as "Technical Electives").

HVAC Concentration students are required to take 3 Professional Electives. If you took two terms of University Seminar (4 credits total) then you need take only 2 Professional Electives.

This year one of your professional electives should be the new Controls course offered by Dr. Wen. The course number will vary from term to term, but will be AE-380-xxx.

  • Structural Concentration students are required to take 2 Professional Electives. If you took two terms of University Seminar (4 credits total) then you only need to take 1 Professional Elective.
  • Dual AE/CE students may "double count" 1 Professional Elective and also the "Free Elective."

A Professional Elective for Architectural Engineering Students is defined as:

  • The course number is a 400 level or above (special permission may be granted for some 300 level courses).
  • A course that contributes to the student's professional development.

These courses would include all courses at the 400 level in the College of Engineering. Acceptable courses include:

  • Project Management or similar courses from CoBA, Engineering Management or Construction Management
  • Math Courses
  • Advanced Architecture Design or Practice Courses

Liberal Studies Electives
You are required to take three (3) Liberal studies electives beyond the designated ones you should already have completed by the time you graduate. The Office of Student Services website describes the entire program and contains a list of the approved courses.

  • You may transfer equivalent Liberal Studies courses from other institutions.
  • Only courses on the list will be approved - courses such as accounting are not valid.
  • For course offerings see SRC's website
